Karlie’s a senior!

I recently had the honor and the pleasure of a senior photo shoot with my gorgeous niece, Karlie. She’s as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. And she is a very talented and gifted young woman. Especially with her animals – particularly her horses.

As we headed out to the pasture for our first photo session late one September day, we discovered that all four horses, Diego, Anne, Rhett and Belle, had gone missing. A gate had been mysteriously left open, and there wasn’t a horse in sight. A quick phone call to a neighbor by Karlie revealed that some horses had been spotted in a field nearby. We headed that direction in Karlie’s sporty Artic Cat, and sure enough, there they were, all together in the middle of a stubble field with brother Drew, who had reached them just before us. Karlie's horses chasing us back home.It was as if they were just waiting for someone to come find them and tell them to get back home. After a quick snack of oats from Karlie’s purple bucket, we headed back to the farm in the Artic Cat, and Diego, Anne, Rhett and Belle began to chase us. It was one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a while. They soon overtook us, bypassed us and almost beat us back home.

The sun was going down fast, but we still had enough of that day’s beautiful golden daylight to proceed with our photo shoot. I was breath taken by the very evident bond Karlie has with her horses, and they with she. I’m not sure my photography did justice to the relationship they have with each other, as they played and worked together during our photo shoot.

Karlie is currently in Phase II of a series of Parelli training workshops, which is all about the relationship between horse and rider, regardless of the style or discipline of riding.

Here’s a gallery with many of my favorites from that day and the next. Be sure to scroll all the way through, so you don’t miss out on Karlie with her Corgi pups, Savvy and Oliver. I’m still editing this shoot, and there’s even more to come soon.
